Pinewood Derby

The pinewood derby for us this year 2 days after we returned from So. Utah.  That meant Larry and T cutting out his car before we left and bringing sand paper and spray paint with us on our trip.  After long days at the ball park Larry and T (and sometimes just Larry) would sit outside our hotel and sand the car.  After that they (sometimes just Larry) would take the car to the other side of the parking lot and spray paint it.  When we got home they put on the wheels and weights and R helped T put on the stickers.

And here's the finished product.

His car did really good!  In the first 4 races he took 1st place and then got to race in the "championship" races.  Over all he took 5th place and was pretty happy about that.  We prepped him before we left that it's not about winning - it's just for fun and don't get frustrated if you don't win.  I told him to be happy for his friends if they won.

He was pretty excited when his car started winning but was very humble about it and just sat in his chair and "pumped his fist" a little.  He did look very proud when he went to get his car and R reached over the flags and gave him a high five.

I'm glad Larry was willing to put in the time and effort for this Hokie car.  Here are some other pics.  Over all a pretty fun night for T.
