Rodeo's and Cowboys

Last weekend we got tickets to the rodeo.  This was a new experience for my kids.  (I spent a couple of my college years in Idaho and learned alot.  I had never seen boys wear such tight Wranglers before.  In fact I don't know if I ever really saw boys were Wranglers at all, where I grew up.  My roommate, who was from Idaho also taught me about the crazy bright colored shirts the boys in tight jeans wore, called brush poppers.  And you can't forget those boots, not cowboy boots but the ones with the fringes. It all brings back great memories, I loved those two years of my life, seriously!)

All of that said, my kids have not experienced any of that.  R mentioned on the way there that he didn't have a cowboy hat.  I told him his baseball hat would be just fine.  And T asked if we would see bull fighting.  Whoops, wrong country.  I said no fighting, just riding.  A just LOVES horses so she was excited too.

Luckily we found some friends to sit with and R's friend took RT and A around to see all the animals and hang out down by the arena.  A asked several questions about the bulls (just let your mind wander a little) and loved petting some horses that were walking around.  All in all we had a really fun night and R asked if we could go next year.  Guess we need to purchase some hats and boots now, we might have some cowboys/cowgirls in the family.

Memorial Day Weekend

Yes, I realize Memorial Day seems so long ago, but I'm behind on posting pictures and couldn't figure out a good way to put everything I want to post in to one big post. So I'm just going to have to do them separately, starting with Memorial Day weekend.

Our weekend started Friday morning as we headed to Alpine for the first day of R's tournament.

They played two games and lost both by just a few runs.  And here is what I got to wash that night.  All I can say is that we use lots of Spray n Wash and Oxy Clean!

On Saturday there were of course 2 more games to finish out the tournament.  This day was better because they finished out with the most fabulous win.  They were behind 5 or 6 runs and came back to win by 2.  My throat was sore and scratchy until Monday.  It was so fun to watch all the boys hit, and I mean REALLY hit, like all the hits got out to the fence (where I was standing, behind the outfield). R started out hitting in a couple of runs and it just continued on with the others behind him.

I heard some of the boys on our team complaining about the other team not being very nice, so one of the coaches said, "Go out there and hit hard and that will shut them up."  That's exactly what they did so it made the win just a little sweeter since the other team was not talking very nice, that is until the runs started to come one after another.  Then the whole other side got quiet.

I asked R about all that and what he heard, since he was playing first base for the whole game.  He said he didn't hear anything. (WHAAAT?)  Then I asked if he heard me yelling, no screaming for him, and saw me jumping up and down with my blue blanket over my head (it was cold that day).  And he looked at me a little confused and simply said, "No."  That, right there, explains R during a game.  He is obviously in his own little baseball world.  All that cheering for nothing.  And my throat really hurt.  Awesome win though.

Here they are after.

Since we were down in Provo for those games we had to eat at Brick Oven.  And the balloon guy was there again too.

To end the fun weekend, on Monday morning I played at the Memorial Day ceremony over at the cemetery.

I'm right in the middle, in the back.

After that we all went to Grandma and Grandpa's for breakfast with the cousins.  Here is L that afternoon.

I think that's how we all felt after that weekend.  Of course a special THANKS to all those who have served our country in the past, those that do now and those that will keep us safe in the future.  I'm proud to be an American!

Latest family picture

Here is our family.

Starting at the left on the top row: baby L, A, Sunny the dog, R (in the middle with the big head) then T (with freckles).  Bottom row: Mom (big), Dad (little)

A did that all by herself and told me about everyone.  We are holding hands.  And that's pretty much us.

More Rugby

On Saturday the 21st Larry, his Dad, the boys and I went to the college National Championship for BYU's rugby team against U Cal.  When we first got there the Highland vs Utah United championship game had just ended.
Since it's very hard to read the scoreboard, that's Highland 38, United 24.  Nice win Highland!

Now for the BYU game.
Here's the National Anthem.

Again, you can see I have a professional camera (NOT).  But really that's right before the song.

Here's R during the game.

Was a really good game.  It was fun to watch #1 Mikey Su'a move the whole pile of guys all by himself.  Every time he did, the crowd went wild.

But in the end, the Cougars just couldn't pull off a win.  The score was 21-14 since the scoreboard picture again isn't the best.  I tried, really.

After, the boys of course had to go look for their friend.  Yes, they found him!

Go Cougs!!!

1st grade Musical Journey

Last week T had his end of the year Musical Journey at school.  It was a fun program as they sang a song about every month of the year.  Example : January - I'm a Little Snowman, February - I'm bringing home a Valentine, March - Have you seen a Leprechaun?  You get the idea.  Very cute!  They all did a great job.

T has had a great year but is definitely ready for summer.  He is the one with his hands on his head (in a green shirt) in the picture, looking ready to be done with the whole thing.

Larry H. Miller

Ryan had to read a biography for his latest book report and he chose to read Driven, about Larry H. Miller.  They had to dress up like the person they read about and talk for 3-5 minutes "about themselves."  So R dressed up like Larry H. Miller today and appropriately wore his Bee's hat since the Salt Lake Bees were one of the many things in Utah that he owned.

Here is R with his hat off.....

Yes, we shaved the top of his head so he would look like Miller.  Can't you see the resemblance?  And he actually wore it like that to school for his presentation.  Everyone loved it, he had a good time and did well on his report.  He even went to baseball practice like that and said everyone had a good laugh.  But he decided he wouldn't leave it like that, so this is what Larry (our Larry, as in R. Larry at our house) did tonight.

Ry is thrilled, says it's the best haircut he's ever had.  You guessed right if you guessed that is his baseball number.  I must admit, it does look pretty cool.  So this is the haircut for tomorrow, and probably the rest of the summer.

BYU vs Navy Rugby

Last Saturday we headed down to Provo for the BYU rugby game.  I had never seen a rugby game in person, just little bits on TV and mostly in the movie Forever Strong that the boys like to watch.  Anyway, I'm sold on rugby.  I will go to a rugby game over football any day.  There weren't constant time outs, there was a short half time (don't remember if that's what they really called it) and the game just continued on even when someone was injured.  It was over in less than two hours, some of the team came over and gave the kids a high five and we were done!  And they WON.  That's my kinda game.

Here are some pictures from the game.

After the game we walked around campus and to the bookstore since it was such a beautiful day!

And this is who we met at the bookstore.

He was so nice to let us take a picture with him.
